Hi. I have a Gateway with a DVD burner. I am having trouble burning jpegs to a blank DVD. I tried Memorex DVD - R, and Fujifilm DVD - R and get an "illegal disk" error failure message. But when I use Memorex DVD - RW, everything works perfect. Sales clerk at CompUSA said some DVD burner software will not accept certain blank DVDs. I have another Gateway desktop in the other room that uses Veritis Record now DX, and the Memorex DVD - R, AND the Fujifilm DVD - R that I described above burn perfect on that system so the blank DVD - R's are good disks. So do I just go buy another brand and try that? (Wish I wouldn't have bought the 100 disk pack).

James Lee.

How do you expect us to help if we don't even know the make/brand of the burner you have.

Most root cause points to the drive being picky about the media type and speeds.

Xpuser,

Ha! Yup, now you catch me and my ignorance. I search Gateway support and enter my serial number and for DVD burner is has -
NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A. The Gateway is a 500x, but that doens't really mean anything. The software is Nero 6.0.0.20.

Is that it? I am saying I really don't even know how to go about finding out what brand of DVD burner it is. I thought it was a Gateway, but I guess it's not that simple maybe?

Thanks for reply all.

lol - no, it's not that simple. Most PC manufacturers use multiple vendors for parts so your Gateway 500x may have an NEC brand burner while the next person to buy one may get a sony or something else.

The following info you posted should be correct:

NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A

The only other way to verify is to open the case and read the make/model info off the burner itself.
