I have a USB HP CD-Writer 8230e External. and I plugged it in and Windows automatically found the drivers and installed them and everything but in Nero. It won't recognize my CD-Writer. And the 'IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service' is enabled and running in Services if that matters. I read something that said "Uninstall Nero, reboot. Then goto My Computer right click on your CD-Writer drive and click Properties and goto the Recording tab and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive." Then reboot and install Nero again then Reboot and it should work fine" I did all that but it still doesn't recognize my recorder only 'Image Recorder' My recorder is recognized in Alcohol 120%. So it's something wrong with Nero or something. I'm using the latest version 6.3.0.2 and have all updates for Windows installed. Can someone please help me. Thank you. And also I have used Nero before on Windows XP and it worked just fine.

Maybe there's an option in NERO what will look at usb cause I think it scan's SCSI and IDE and not usb. But if you ask me Nero sucks I use Alcohol 120% for all my burning also dvd.

I looked through preferences and everything and didn't see nothing to make it look at USB. I don't know why it's not working it worked before though... It worked before though??

That should be "check enable recording on this drive". Also try disabling IMAPI CD BURNING. That is for the XP burning function.

You might also check the NERO web page and see if your burner is supported by Nero. Not all burners are supported by all burning software.

I echo gabep. Depending on the age of the burner and the version of Nero, it may well not recognize it. If it is a registered copy, you can download the latest update of your version (must be at least 5, but could be 6) from their site and it will update for free. Upgrades (like from 5 to 6) cost money, but the latest version of 5 (5.5.10.7, I think) will recognize anything that was on the market before about November '03.
