OS: XP
CPU/Ram: 1.2 and 600mbs
Comment:

Here is what i know.

1. i just got a 52X24X52 (samsung) burner today and i put it in. i burned 6 movie files with Nero 9.5.5.10 Ultra edition. they all burned in about 3 or 4 minutes using 40X Maxell media. so that is good. I also Burned a V CD and it only took a few minutes.(good)

2. THEN i burned and copied a DVD with my hp dvd writer dvd 300i. put in the movie, used dvd x copy Xpress. burned the dvd in about 20 minutes (after the ripping which took about 15). this is the dvd drive at full speed. between 4 and 16 write. (good)

3. THEN i fired up NERO and wanted to make a STRAIGHT ISO data backup. i put a few collections of things on the disk and burned. I hadn't changed any settings. IT TOOK 3 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it must have been burning at 1x's. i don't know.(very friggin bad)

4. THEN i fired NERO back up to burn a few more files.....and it took 30 minutes instead of 4. I also burned a 20 minute MP3 CD and it took close to 30 minutes. (very lame)

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!

it has to be an issue with nero interacting with my diffrent drives. all other softwares - RECORD NOW - DVD X COPY burn at max speeds.
but it only slows down after i make an ISO with my DVD burner (HP dvd300i)

i am going to try an install nero 6 again and just use it to burn bin/cues and CDR-CDRW related things and use diffrent software to make ISO's for my DVDs (backup).

i wish it wasn't doing this because i loved how i could do everything with NERO and i have never had this problem before.

ANY IDEAS?
SUGGESTIONS?
ALSO:

DMA was set on my drives, i checked that.
BIOS is upgraded, i checked that.
Drivers for the Burners are AOK.
ASPI is working just swell and is updated.
600mbs of ram
1.2 gig processor
thanks

what version of Nero 6 are you using? they are having A LOT of major issues with nero 6. A lot of bugs are in right now they are trying to fix. Last one I got was 6.0.0.9, though I know there has been more updayes since then. I am ready to go back to 5.5...that's for sure.

i have version 6.0.0.11
and update on 6.0.0.9.

and i dont have any virus problems.

i scan quit a bit, have a good firewall, and don't have any other problems on my computer.

and like i said when i wrote this.....it works fine speedwise until i burn a DVD iso.
then everything slows down.

(ALSO - i am pretty sure it is impossible to get a virus from an mp3. to my knowledge only .exe can create virus problems)

but back to topic.

Actually *.mac, *.mcr, *.eml, *.bat, etc. can all cause virus problems, you'd be surprised how sneaky someone can be.

I would suggest contacting Nero. They are moving everything over to 6.0 from 5.5, so their response time is pretty slow, but they are pretty decent and thorough in their responses. It could very well be a Nero issue and probably is.

Also, just because you are using newer drivers desn't mean they are working properly with your software, or are the ones specifically intended for use with certain software programs. I do a lot of video editing and some things I use actually require one or two year old drivers to run smoothly (though this is a rarity).

You may check at dvdrhelp.com or doom9.org and see if they have something posted. dvdrhelp.com is THE site to go to when you are having problems with dvd, cd, vcd, svcd, xvcd, etc. etc. etc.
