I just built a system and am having problems getting Nero Express to burn CD's. I have two hard drives set as master, one on the primary and one on the secondary IDE. The writer is a Lite-On 52X32X52 set as slave on the primary IDE. The CDRW instructions say to set the drive as master but I would rather not as I'm looking for maximum hard drive performance. The drive reads fine, just won't write. In Nero, I get a read error and it will not write. Shouldn't the writer work on as a slave? Any ideas what the problem might be if so?

i dont think it lowers performance if your hdd is a primary slave instead of a secondary master. in any case, i recommend you make the cd writer the secondary master just to try it out ... you can always swap it back, and it will give you more info as to the problem

did you recently upgrade to sp1?

guess nero didnt pay microshaft its lunch money and sp1 decided not to support nero anymore. but thats your problem, upgrade your version of nero to the latest. also get a cdrom cleaner..could be a dusty lens

Put both your drives on the primary IDE channel, master and slave. Have your cdrw on the secondary channel and run it as a master. You will not see and speed differences either way. It can actually help your cdrw if you have it on a seperate channel as the info that is being burned is not crossing on the same IDE channel. Also, is your ASPI up to date? if not then

ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v472.exe

Install that and you should be fine.
