Good evening everyone. I just purchased my first DVD unit a NEC ND-3550A and with it came Nero 6.6.0.15 after I finished with the installation I decided to update the software to 6.6.0.18
The update went fine until it came time for the actual installation when I got an error message stating "The installer has detected that another installation is running. Please finish the first installation and start the installer again" I clicked OK and the installer closed.
Being as I had not even started Nero I checked for anything else to be running and found nothing. So I tried it several more times with no luck. Finally I tried to uninstall it and got the same message so I went to Nero and got their uninstall & clean program and ran it.
Did a cold reboot and installed the program and on trying to update got the same message so I repeated the whole process one more time to no avail. I checked all of the FAQ's on the Nero site and got no info.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. Bob
If you wake up to see the day - it can't be that bad.

If you aren't having any problems with the original version, I wouldn't bother with the updates. It's not uncommon for updates to have problems. I'm of the persuasion that if something is working ok, don't try and fix it.

Hello.
Open Taskmanager.exe and click Tabs " Applications " and " Processes " and close/Kill every instance of Nero running.
Then try to re-install first the program on the CD-ROM that came with your Burner.
Then again using Taskmanager, close/kill Nero apps/processes and run updated Nero.

Good morning All,
Ham30 - if I did not need something in the upgrade I would not bother with it.
Suatcini - I tried your suggestion before I posted I think there may be something in the registry. Nero has a utility to clear the registry will try it today.
Thanks, Bob

Hi All,
For future reference I emailed Nero's Tech-Support center and they returned an auto email saying they received my request, on that email were some URL's to access different places on the Nero site.
On a hunch I picked their update site and within 1/2 hour I had a complete update installed.
I think that before I was opening the Nero Start Smart program to go to their site and that was using files that had to be updated so the installation failed.

Hello.
Please never ever again try to update a program when that program is running.
Some programs are clever enough to close themselves if open when updating. Some are not.

Hi Suatcini,
That was where Nero supplied the "click here to update" path so I figured it has to be right. Right? Wrong!
Another lesson learned the hard way, have a fun day.
