Hi there
Just installed Nero 6, having bought a Ricoh MP5240A DVD+RW/+R drive.
I am trying to back up the contents of various folders, including My Pictures. When I view the properties of the My Pictures directory, it tells me it is 2.69 Gb in size. When I import the folder into Nero 6 for writing to DVD-Rom, it reports the file size as 4.8 Gb, hence too large to fit on a DVD. Any ideas for why this discrepency exists? It is the same for every My Docs folder or file I have tried. Is it XP reporting the wrong directory size or Nero? What can I do about it in each case?
All ideas extremely welcome.
Thanks a million
Jeremy

This is partly guessing, I have never used nero to backup but would imagine it compresses the image to the DVD. If you have files in your 'my pictures' (or any folder) that are already compressed (such as Music MP3 or Video MPEG, AVI etc), then this will cause the file size to grow. Compressed files don't like to be recompressed. Try removing any of these file types and try again.

Jeremy,
Be careful you don't have a compressed files in the directory. I'm not sure what kind of disc your making but most formats will uncompress the data during the image creation process, hence you will find that 2.9 GB of compressed data is really 4.8GB uncompressed.
J.
