Needs Help! Power Outage And No CD

Last night my power due to a storm flicked on and off twice before I could shut the machine down. Now this morning my CD doesn't work, and with alittle bit investigating into my system discovered it is not installed(was running fine last night as I was playing a CD game with my son). My question is, can I use the restore feature to undo the changes that this power outage did, or do I have to unistall then reinstall XP?

you can do the restore to see if it works or you can do the repair option. here is step by step instructions at this site

My suggestion is to go to the device manager - (RT.click My computer|properties|Hardware tab|Device Manager|DVD/CD ROM drives expand and select the CDROM|Rt.Click|uninstall) to remove the device. Power down the computer and then bootup and let XP reinstall the CDROM. Hopefully this will take care of the problem.
