Before you wipe Vista, go to Device Manager & identify your hardware. You will need to know the exact model numbers for the motherboard chipset, video, audio, network, possibly others. Once you know the model numbers, you can search for XP compatible drivers. It won't necessarily be an easy task.
And assuming you have an SATA HDD, you will also need the SATA drivers. XP doesn't natively support SATA & the drivers are needed for the HDD to be recognized. If your BIOS doesn't support IDE compatibility mode & I doubt you have a floppy drive, you will have to create a new XP disc with the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it. You can use a program called nLite to create the new disc.
