The last time i tinkered around with my ram and added another default chip I lost my bookmarks and it was a HELL of a time getting ALL my firefox bookmarks back, i've got hundreds, so why did that happen? its making me unsure about upgrading

How did you add the ram? Disconnected the power before doing so???
Lost links relate to hard drive errors. Did you run chkdsk /r ? I don't see how adding memory would effect the hard drive.
consider backing up. It will save you a ton of time and aggravation.

That has to be a coincidence. I don't see how adding memory would cause you to loose bookmarks when Bookmarks/Favorites are stored under your user profile on the hard drive. Verify you have the correct memory for your motherboard and go right ahead.
Agreed. There's no way changing or adding memory would affect your bookmarks/favorites. If you're afraid it will happen again, simply back them up in advance.
