i want to update my bios, but all the guides say i need to do this from the command prompt....so how do i get into "dos" from win xp ?

Asus has a bios update utility for their motherboards that works under XP but otherwise, you need a win 9x bootdisk. You can get one at www.bootdisk.com
put a disk in the drive, then right click. XP gives you the option to create and MS-DOS boot disk once you click format.

follow the guide for your mobo. they are all different. intel lets me do it from dos, if i want, but they provide a flash utility that does it for me. I just run it like a program, and when it's done, it reboots and tada

you might need to change your bios settings so that your computer boots the floppy first. make sure that you have the Flashing utility the same disk as teh boot disk and then follow the instructinos that your manuafacturer provides along with the bios update. hope that helps a little..
