Hi guyz,
I want a suggestion. Recently I've installed Windows XP SP2. And I had Norton AV 2004. I think both of them specially NORTON AV has made my PC slowwww. It takes at least 3 - 4 mins to start up :(. Is there any better solution? Can I get any reliable AV? I'm thinking to upgrade to Norton AV 2005. What do u think guyz?

See how you like AVG Antivirus, it's free.

Also SP2 is crap, it does slow down your computer, and also makes it less secure. I'd get rid of it.

Use the web the way it was meant to be used. Get Firefox.

I have done the SP2 ugrade myself with no problems, I am also running Norton Antivirus 2004. First thing you should do is run Disk Defragmentor and analyse your sytem to see if it needs to be done. The first thing I did after installing SP2 is turn all the security off and tell it that I have a antivirus and firewall, there are check boxes for this, then the security icon is gone. If you do not have a firewall then you will have to leave that turned on. I like to do everything manualy, I have turned off auto update for windows. You may even benefit with another 256 of ram, take a look at your windows task manager and see how much resources it is using. (ctrl alt del)On my 98se install I am using AVG for antivirus, you can get a free copy or the pro paid version. It works for xp as well.If you have used your xp install for a while before you updated a clean install is always a good way to go.Another thing you can check is control panel-sytem-advanced tab-startup and recovery-settings-uncheck the box time to display list of operating systems, make note of the time in the box.

Hi Razib
There's nothing wrong with Norton, it's SP2 that's causing the problems here.

Did you run liveupdate after installing SP2? There is an update for SP2 on NAV.

Norton rocks, its sp2 that has the probs, disable the xp firewall (there are known conflicts with a third party firewall), go to msconfig, in start up disable all uneccessary start up programms, I have used norton for some 4 years now and never had a problem
