Hello, ill start from the beginning...

Was going fine on the net till I got disconnected from the net, modem said that there was a network cable unpluggged, well I checked and the plugs were all in safe and sound etc, try restarting the pc, turning modem off and on blah blah but all the modem would do is training and then it would go back to no cable connected.

I uninstalled it, reinstalled it but bad a mistake while installing it so used system restore to go back a few days. Now it shows up as cannot communicate with the device, I cant uninstall as it comes up that its searching for a file, if I use system restore to go back to the point where I installed it, it says it wont install because it cant communicate with the device.

So if I did get a replacement modem, but the driver was the cause of the problem how would I be able to reinstall the driver when I cant now?

Modem: Actiontec

Your post is rather confusing. Is this a DSL modem? If so, why are drivers installed. and what is training?

Yes it is dsl modem, yeah sorry about the confusing post.

By the drivers I mean the software that comes with the disk that comes with the modem.

oh and training happens between when the modem is connected to the network and when it is not connected to the network, for instance in the past when it worked normally it would be modem not connected--> training --> modem connected to network.

your dsl modem doesn't require drivers as far as I know. If the software installed is causing problems bypass the software and use windows to connect to it. Search google for manually connecting to a [your modems brand and model] from within windows. You may have some luck with that.

"I uninstalled it, reinstalled it but bad a mistake while installing it so used system restore to go back a few days." What exactly did you do here (this may be helpful to know)?
Just in case it is the cable that's messing up, buy or try another one.

Hi Computer Novice 2.

Just as a point, "Need some Help" describes nothing. Some forum users will not even look at such posts, as a rule neither do I.

I do not mean to be nasty, but "Internet connection problem" or "modem problem" may have been a better description of your needs.

Hope your problem gets fixed soon.

Regards.
