Comment:

I am trying to do a system recovery with my xp disc. What I need to know is what do I type in?

The first thing it asked is:
1: C:\Windows
Then: Which windows would you like to log onto (I typed in a 1 and then hit enter)

Then it asked for my Administrator Password which I then typed in.

I then received this below it:
C:\windows>

What do I need to type in at this point in order for system recovery to start?

Thank You in advance.

I don't know where it is you have gotten yourself as that is DOS commands...which should not be needed.

All you need to do is:
1) if you are using the Dell recovery disc then you need to go to dell's site and see what the directions are for using their recovery disc for your particular computer model as each model has it's own specific restore options.

In some cases it must be started by hitting a specific key during the initial boot-up sequence...Maybe F11 or the like.
or
all you would need to do is just boot from the restore CD just like using an original XP installation disc.

The Dell manual will give you all the information that you need to safely restore to the original condition as when first purchased.

Once I put in the disc and boot from it... it goes through the procedure to either install xp, or do a recovery console by pressing "R"

I would like to recover what I had.

The problem arose when I booted today and received a blue screen with the issue being: BEEP.SYS
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_ AREA

You are into the recovery console.

It is not the same as system recovery. You need to go to the Dell site.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

Why are you trying to repair Vista by using a WinXP CD?

OtheHill,

You caught it! LOL I get to where I don't even look at the info anymore as it really never says what we need to know. Now you make me have to look all the time.

So the system isn't a Dell computer, and you're trying to install XP from a Dell XP reinstall/recovery CD?

Can't do that. It's illegal. You'll have to buy a valid version of XP and install it.
