I have onboard sound and cannot get any sound.
Board:
MSI 915P/G ComboI went to MSI site and downloaded the most recent drivers, but still no sound.
Verified in BIOS that onboard audio is enabled and can choose AC97 or Azailia (I chose both with no result)
The only errors in Device Mgr. are for Microsoft Kernel, but they are disabled.
My "C-Media High Definition Audio Device" says "working properly", but in "Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices" it shows No Audio Device.
I recently had some system performance issues and could not boot up, and as part of the fix I over-wrote the "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system" with "C:\WINDOWS\repair\system".
That is when I think the Audio issue began.
Any help short of buying a sound card?
Thanks!

Post more specific information about the sentence above. What exact messages are in Device Manager and for what devices?

Here is a breakdown of the DM Audio:
DEVICE MANAGER
- Sound, video and game controllers-- C-Media High Definition Audio Device
"This device is working properly."
*ENABLED-- ! Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)"
*DISABLED-- ! Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)"
*DISABLED

I'm guessing your duplicate post is the result of mistakenly posting in the wrong Forum http://www.computing.net/answers/se... You may want to PM Justin Weber and ask him to remove the original post.

FYI I found a fix for this issue.
In Device Manager > System Devices
There were 2 listings for Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator.
The top one was able to uninstall by right clicking on it. So I removed it, rebooted, now all sounds works like they did before.

glad you sorted it. always make sure you are running the latest drivers. I always recommend doing regular scans with automatic driver update software. Update your AC97 audio drivers and other system devices; they have a free scanner.

I recommend leaving drivers as they are unless you are having problems with them or KNOW that updating will be helpful.
