Hard drive manufacturers and Microsoft happen to think a megabyte differ in size:

Binary megabyte = 1.028,576 bytes

Decimal megabyte = 1,000,000 bytes

Your BIOS (and hard drive manufacturers) reports in Binary, Windows and Windows applications (in the main) report in Decimal.

It's not a big difference, but when you take 80 gig it knocks nearly 4 off.

I don't suffer from insanity, I embrace it.

enton,

your problem has already been answered: the makers of the HardDisk sell it as a 80Gb drive because they calculate the space on it differently. Their calculation will produce a slightly higher number, so that's what they use.

Your 80Gb is actually a 76,3Gb Drive and that's completely normal.
