Sorry if this has been asked a million times before, but when I try to install Windows XP Pro on my system, the install halts due to a blocking issue, which just says High Point HPT 366 Ultra DMA Controller.
How do I go about resolving this issue?

It looks that you have raid controller (maybe not) anyway you should read before installation there is written to provide SCSI/RAID drivers to the winXP installer. So you should supply proper driver before installation of WINXP. (Read carefully bottom of the installation screen).

I'm not sure I understood that.
All it tells me is that installation cannot continue due to a blocking call caused by the DMA controller (see original post).
Perhaps I need a driver, but I would just like some people more knowledgable on the subject as to what I should do.
Thanks...

Petr is telling you that when xp first begins install you should read the bottom line of the screen. It'll tell you to press F6 to install SCSI/RAID controllers. You need these drivers installed from the beginning. You'll have to begin installation from scratch to be able to do this. And you'll need to supply the drivers.

pressing F6 doesnt always work.
Here is what you do.
remove the cover and then take the ide cable off the ultra-DMA port and move it to the primary ide port.
Then install windows XP, then go into the control panel and install the dma driver which is usally on the cdrom that came with the motherboard.
That is if you have it. then you have the choice of leaving it on the primary port or putting it back on the UDMA port.
If your harddrive is not ATA 100 then i would just leave it on the primary port.

i think i have a similar problem with my maxtor ata100 working on a siig ata66 pci controller card. XP install freezes soon after it says press f6 to load 3rd party driver. BUT when i try to press F6, nothing happens!
!!!
any idea also why a maxtor ata100 40GB will not detect in my bios on my onboard ata33 ports?
this is so nutty.

Hey
I've been experiencing the same problems with the HPT366 driver for the Windows XP install. please goto www.highpoint-tech.com and check out the drivers-bios support page. than goto the HPT366 client page. Download the HPT366 drivers for windows 2000, than move all those files onto a disk... when booting up windows you should be able to press F6 and install the drivers off the disk you put the files on.

i tried using the windows 200 HPT 366 controller driver but it just doesn't work with windows XP
Anyone could have other solution to this ? win xp will run like a snail under ultra dma 33

win xp don't support hpt366.
you can try drivers for win 2000,
or not to use the hpt366.
you can move your hdd to classic ide controler. it's work but you have a ultra 33 dma tranfer.
if you find win xp driver for hpt 366 please send me the url.

Hello, i´ve got a kt7a raid board from abit and i have got the newest drivers for the raid controller. when i install winxp it shows a black screen and hangs before i would choose my partition. i tried it on the normal ide port but the same happened. is it possible that xp wont work with raid controllers.
thanxs

go to abits website and download the new raid drivers at startup press f6 when prompted to install 3rd party scsi or raid drivers and intall the downloaded ones off of a floppy, simple...

Same here, setup crashes if I install on Raid boot disk, but it all works if I use a standalone disk to install on, I can use raid controller after installation, but I would like to use the two striped disks for the extra speed.
Must be the raid causing the problem during setup!!!
New drivers or Bios perhaps?

Who can me give new Windows XP drivers for the "Abit BE6 HPT366" mainboard??? Pleeaaasse, please, please!!!!
I can't find this drivers at the abit homepage. When I install Win XP, the system or PC boot new... I get an error message that I have a virus on my PC or my hardisk ist not correctly installed! That can't be!!!!!!
Need I a new bios update or a new controller software(DMA 66)???Thanks Thanks!!!!!!

Und zwar: "Prüfen sie ob der Rechner Viren enthält, ziehen Sie zusätzlich installierte Festplatten oder Controller raus, ist die Festplatte richtig konfiguriert"!
Habe scandisk, usw.... alles versucht!Keine Möglichkeit! Brauche nun einen neues update für mein Mainboard (Abit BE6 HPT 366)
