Need help with viruses on my computer. I used AVG 7.0 and it said that I had 30 + exe , tmp , and dll things, and only some of them could be deleted but some of the exe , tmp and dll stuff had the same words in it like sidefind and ist_bar or something. I deleted the one's that could be deleted but the ones that stayed were,

Trojan Horse Downloader.Istbar.3.BQ
Trojan Horse PSW.Bispy.E
Trojan Horse PSW.Bispy.B
Trojan Horse Downloader.Dyfica.2.l
Trojan Horse Downloader.Istbar.3.BE
Trojan Horse Downloader Agent.AS
Trojan Horse Downloader Istbar.4.G
Trojan Horse PSW.Bispy.B
Trojan Horse PSW.Bispy.D
Trojan Horse PSW.Bispy.E
Trojan Horse BackDoor.Agent.Ba

Those above were the ones that couldn't be deleted, and I'm having other trouble with my Internet Explorer. It slowed down alot when I open a window or click on something it usually says Error and a paragraph and at the bottom says View Report and Don't send. It won't let me download anything because the page loads then freezes. The way I got AVG was I went on my sisters computer and downloaded it and put it in My own computers Network Folder thing and I installed it and runned it. Also some of the viruses come back. I've deleted most of the, but there still a handfull left.

I hope you guys can help me, because I'm very new to this stuff and not sure what I'm doing.

Plz try to help

Aaron

If you can help me step by step post it or IM me on AIM. My screename is Shadow8134

Aaron,

You will never be able to get rid of these things without totally erasing your hard drive, reformatting it and reinstalling Windows XP. The viruses are too insidious sand you are too inexperienced (at least for now).
\
If your PC comes with a "recovery or restore cd" rather than a windows xp install cd then call your pc manufacturer's tech support help desk, or read you manual on how to do a full recovery using this recovery/restore cd.

If you have a Windows xp install cd, do this:

1. Save any important data -- documents, pictures, music, etc. but NOT any program files especially ones you have downloaded. Burn them to a cd or copy them to a second hard drive if you have one.

2. Put the windows xp installation cd into your cd drive and then restart the pc. Thye pc should boot from the cd into the windows xd install procedure. If your pc does not boot from the cd repost here and we will tell you how to reset your bios to have the pc boot from the cd drive. Follow the install prompts. When it gets to the part that shows the partition(s) on your hard drive select the choice that deletes the partition that has windows xp installed oin it.

3. Next, choose the option that causes windows to create a new partition on your hard drive. tHE NEW PARTITION WILL BE FORMATTED, THIS TAKES A WHILE.

4. Then choose the partition that was just created as the one to receive the new installation of windows XP. Proceed with the install.

None of this will do any good unless you can figure which of your behaviours caused you to become a serial infectee with all of these viruses. Figure it out and stop doing those things or you will be reinfected before the day is out. Get anti-virus software and a firewall installed. Learn what to do to avoid becoming infected.

Remember that this procedure will completely erase your hard drive and everything on it will be gone forever.

The first thing you need to do is go to start then control panel - double click on network connections and then right click on your connection. Go to properties then click on the advanced tab. put a check in the internet connection firewall to turn it on. Then you need to download "Ad-aware" and "Spybot search and destroy" Update them and run them. Remove what they suggest. They may be found at www.pcworld.com/downloads or at any other download sites. You also need to download a good firewall.

Response number 2 will be your best bet.

The only time I answer a question, is if it has happened to me and the solution has worked. Most of the time, there are simple solutions to problems, use them before internal adjustments.

I recommened a good virus check - www.sophos.com This can scan and remove the files for you using the remove option. There is no need for a full reinstall. When you have removed I recommend you visit Windows Update (www.windowsupdate.com) and install all the critical patches, this will prevent you getting alot of them again.

The best free antivirus program I've used is Avast! free home edition. Has on-line up-dates while you surf...works great!

As far as the viruses, you can look them up using www.google.com
It will explain everything

A good free firewall to use is sygate home edition.

You can find all these apps using google

I just got rid of Trojan PSW.BISPY.D using AVG.
It comes back because Windows XP restores it, since Windows stores the virus in a file that AVG cannot access. You must do the following to prevent a restore.

-1-Go to My Computer.
-2-Right click on the My Computer icon in the upper left hand corner.
-3-Click on Properies.
-4-Click on the System Restore tab
-5-Check "Turn off system restore."
-6-Shut down and reboot.
-7-Repeat steps -2- to -4-
-8-Uncheck "Turn off System Restore"

This should have eliminated the trojan. Run AVG again to see that you are free of it. Silly old MicroSoft has built XP to restore viruses once your virus program has decomissioned them.

I use Mozilla and Firefox instead of IE. It works fine for me, but not for my ten year old girl who like to play a fast game of Hannah and the Pirates on Neopets and likes to use "drag and drop" inside of HTML to dress dollz on dollzmania.com. I am going to try Opera which has a good reputation.
