Okay i just want to hear other peoples opinion. I want to know what antivirus program i should use to protect my computer. I want the best protection any antivirus program can offer but i dont want to have to sacrafice a lot of system resources.
Which program is the best out of Norton (corp 10),Norton 2005, AVG Free, Bitdefender, NOD32, and McAfee? Why do you think this programs is the best? If there are any other programs that i did not list that you think is worth using, let me kno.
Thanks for any help,
Ryan.

ps. I dont really like Norton because it uses to many system resources and really slows down the computer. But if it really is the best and the only way to go, let me know. ALso i dont want to use online scanning, i need full protection.

I use eTrust Antivirus. It's the one Microsoft included on their free Windows Update CD a few years ago. The link above has a button to download a free 1-year trial. Also, if you can prove you've subscribed to one of the other major AVs, you can get it at half-price - click on the "Antivirus" link on the LHS of the page.

I've been using it for around 6 years, and love it because it's so unobtrusive. It has probably the smallest "footprint" of any of the better AV's, and the frequent automatic updates are small and quickly d/loaded. You hardly know it's there.

In fact my boss asked me to recommend a good AV last sumnmer, so I got him to sign up for and download eTrust AV then and there. Six months later, he said "I really should get a good AV soon, I'm worried about getting a virus". Wondering what on earth was going on I checked, and there was the icon in the systray, bang up-to-date. "Oh THAT!" he said, "I've never had any messages from it". That's how a good AV should be - unobtrusive.

Well it seems you have lots of advice. So why not mine?

I have used them all at some time or other and I have setlled for AVAST www.avast.com, its free, it checks for updates daily, and in my opinion detects more than any of the others.

I'll third the motion for Avast. I paid for McAfee for 5 years for it's protection before finding Avast as better and uses little resources unlike McAfee and Norton.

You do have to register it but it is free.

If they ever decide to start charging for it then I will pay.

It's pretty hard to say which one is the best. But Trend has been rated the best in a couple of reviews I have seen. I use AVG because it's free. But, from my experience, it doesn't do an acceptab;e job of removing them. Trend's online check is very good at removal.

I'm going to go against everyone else's suggestions about which AntiVirusApplication is the best to use, only to say that you only get what you pay for.

That is not to say that I don't value their suggestions. In fact, I just might go download a few that I've never tried just to have a feel of whether or not those programs are actually better then I'll bite my tongue.

In my opinion McAffee sucks.

It all depends on the end-user. Whether or not you know how to detect and/or remove a virus/Trojan/spyware/adware/malware etc etc on your own without the use of an antivirusprogram. If you, the end-user, is/are somewhat virus savvy/familiar with any "virus psyche"(To analyze, solve, or comprehend. To anticipate or guess the intentions of) then you need advanced Antivirusprotection but if you do not want to know or care about what virus does what, its name or technical details then you can use basic removers and go on with your life.

As for me, I'll pay for mine and not reveal what I use for security reasons.

and b.t.w. Symantec products have recently been on mainstream news because exploits have been leaked...
