Ok, so my sister bought some sony computer that is all just one BIG junk, the MB, vid card, nic card, everything is just one piece. Well it turns out the nic card is not compatable with my router so I bought one I think is and I put it in.
When I restarted it did not detect it at all but instead just had a replica of the other nic card (had the exact same name, properties, driver listed, everything!). I tried installing the drivers for it but I couldn't because when I went to "install new hardware" it didn't detect anything, and the drivers do nothing.
I heard something about me needing to change IRQs. They are both on 17 I think, but I have no idea how to change it.
How do I install the new drivers for the card and get it working?
If anyone could go indepth of the steps to take I would be VERY much indebt to you, I've been trying to network this stupid sony computer for 2 WHOLE months now with no luck. *pulls out hair*

Hi Moïse,
to remove your NIC:
-right click on Mycomputer(on your desktop).
-properties
-Hardware
-device manager
-network adapter(double-click)
-right click your NIC and delete
-restart your computerBonne chance

Go into BIOS and disable the onboard LAN/NIC whatever it is called. Also, I have never heard of IRQ 17, but that does not mean it does not exist...there are lots of things that I do not know!!!
Today's PC's share IRQ's with little great success. The IRQ setting "should" not matter.
Also do what miveck said about removing...
If necessary, physically remove the new NIC, then start WINDOZE. Shutdown and physically reinstall the new NIC.

Have you tried going to Sony's website and download the manual for the computer yet? You need to disable the onboard nic card in the bios before installing a new one. That way windows won't assign any resoures for the old one. Then may sure that the bios doesn't assign an irq for it too. After you do this then you can install the new nic card. Even if XP still sees the old one you can disable it in the device manager, I recommend checking this before installing the new card.
