Please help. I have a old hard drive that was crashed. However, I need some important files from it. I tried to boot up it as a second hard drive with my XP computer that is NTFS, but I can't see files from that hard drive. I couldn't convert it to NTFS because it is a 500MB hard drive. Please teach me how to get files from it. Thank you very much.

I may be wrong but I think the NTFS Drive should be able to 'see' the FAT one - if it is FAT32
It's not quite the same thing but I have an External FAT32 HDD and my XP NTFS Drive can 'see' the External FAT32 one and I can transfer Files back and forth

How did you connect the drive physically? Is it seen in the BIOS? If not, then either you don't have the jumpers set correctly, or the drive is dead; thus the crash.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Start by going into control panel/computer management\administration tools\disk manager.
Most likely you need to import the disk or at the very least assign it a signature and a drive letter. Then you will see it in My computer and explorer. Then you can get your files.
Drive does need to be cabled correctly and seen in the bios first.

NTFS drives can't see anything. NTFS is a file system just like FAT32. It is the operating system that determines which file systems can be read, regardless of which file system it is installed on. You can install Windows XP on a FAT32 partition and still use NTFS partitions.
Windows XP can read all varieties of FAT, FA32, FAT16 and even FAT12. Otherwise it wouldn't be able to read floppy disks which are FAT12.

I can see that FAT hard drive from my XP computer. It is my D drive when I plugged it as the 2nd HD. However, I can't see any files from the drive. I only see four system files, but the HD should be full of files and folders. Disk management show it's active. I tried to boot up the computer with Windows 95 or Windows 98 boot disk but can't boot up the system. I got F1 and F2 choices only. Any ideas for me to see files from that FAT HD from my XP computer? Thanks.

What system files are these?
If that is all XP can see them the chances are that the disk is corrputed or it has been formatted with the /s option.

If you can see the drive but not the files, it's time for a data recovery solution.

XP can write and read to a fat disk.
Go to device manager and see what is going on.
You should have never taken it out of the original box either. Any linux live cd can read fat, any bart's pe type cd can read fat. All can copy them to other media.
Get one or more of these tools if hd is really out of whack.
Might as well make a ubcd4win while you are at it. Might need it later. Start by using all the av tools an then malware tools.

I knew that I can see FAT disk like USB stick disk but I can't see any file from that old internal FAT hard drive. I only see autoexec.dos, config.dos and command.dos when I connected it as second hard drive. I tried some data recovery softwares, but still can't see other folders and files. :(
