Hi,
I just built a computer,
AMD 3.2 Ghz Dual Core
Cd Drive
MSI 8600 GTSNO FLOPPY DRIVE
I also bought Windows XP Pro from my university.
I am trying to install XP, but the CD's that I got are not boot disks. I need a boot disk in CD form, because there is no floppy drive on the computer I am building. This is my first build, and I would love some help with this problem.I found the 6 Floppy boot disk on Microsoft's help page, but does anyone have it in CD form?
Thanks

I non-bootable Windows XP CD suggests to me that the copy you have is not legitimate. All Windows XP CDs are bootable. You mentioned CDs you got. How many did you get? Windows XP comes on one CD!
I would suggest you get a legitimate copy otherwise you are going to have problems with upgrades, updates and activation.

Booting software in Floppy and ISO form can be found here or here.
It's a good day when you learn something

I got it legally and it came with two identical CD's. This is a student version.
The BIOS is at its most recent and it is set to recognize the CD drive first.
I updated the BIOS by downloading it and using the EZ-Flash utility that came with the motherboard.Whenever I try to boot using the CD is says
"Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key"

Ah wait, I found the problem
Thank you for your help
There was a bad connection (CD S-ATA cable improperly connected)

Glad you got it sorted.
I had two CD's like the ones you described. One was a students version and one was a corporate version. Neither were bootable. The drive had to be either booted with a media, or set up to boot on its own, with a seperate FAT32 partition to use for the swap-file which housed the setup up files once installation started.

You gotta wonder: while booted on what?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

I have installed the student version of WinXP and it was bootable. It was only one CD, so maybe something different.
I suspect the OP wasn't hitting any key when prompted. Either that or the HD was before the CD in the boot order.
