Hello! i need some help, i have a 80 gb HDD partitioned in two ( C:\ and D:\) drives. now i have bought a 160 gb hdd and i have partitioned it in 2 parts ( E:\ and F:\ ) now my windows XP and the programs i use are installed in C:\ drive. Now i want to know is there any way to clone or transfer windows XP from C: drive to E drive in order that windows and other programs still works? If it is possible help me plz, Thanks

you want to clone the old disc onto the new one and then replace the old disc?
use Ghost with the option 'disc to disc' then make sure the new disc is jumpered as master and replace the old hdd.

Yes i want to clone the SYSTEM to new hdd than format the old hdd. thanks for your help. by the way where can i find GHOST and after i clone it does programs work???

You can find ghost at most places that sell computer software (not just games). Once you cloned the old hard drive to the new hard drive you will need to make the new drive the primary boot drive so that it is given drive letter C in order for Windows and your programs to work/

Hi enton, mattie, Michael J, orbital, hi everyone
Please see my response #3 & #5 in BSOD Stop error message by dr death, also see responses #6, #7 and if you like #8.
(http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/158876.html)The mentioned programs in #5 are free and meant to help with setting up the new drive and clone the old drive to the new drive.

Why even go that route - is your current 80GB disk heading south?
If I was you, I'd simply slip the 160GB (dual partitioned) disk in a firewire caddy and have it as an external backup solution.
Then move the data currently residing within the D: partition on the 80GB disk to one of the partitions on the 160GB, then merge C: & D: on the 80GB back as one partition.
That way you can setup (using Ghost or another clone tool) an incremental backup schedule that periodically clones your 80GB C: to the other remaining partition on the 160GB.

addressing the question "transfer windows XP from C: drive to E drive in order that windows and other programs still works? " the answer is NO
I acronis'ed my 120gig to my xmas new 250gig in about an hour. Quick, easy and I still have the 120 [now out of the system] to fall back if I need to.
