Hi,

I apologize for asking a non-tech question, but I am hoping that some of you if not most, have been there before. I haven't much space to work with, the PC I am using is my wife's and it's in our bedroom. I haven't hooked up my PC yet, but it's plugged in, the second bedroom, so that the battery won't discharge. The 2nd bedroom is the only space I have, as we live in a condo, to set up my PC. The problem is, the desk that is in there, can hardly accommodate a keyboard. I have a 22" LG Widescreen monitor, and recently purchased a Logitech wireless keyboard. The bedroom also has a tall cabinet that has two doors. I can move that more towards the door, leaving me with just enough space. What I was hoping to find was a work station that I can install, that will accommodate the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc., that won't take up much space, yet allow me the opportunity to also have desktop space so that I can write, sign letter, etc. Do any of you know where I should look? I looked at Staples, but they just didn’t have what I want. I can visualize it, sort of like an all in one compact desk, but I am not finding it on line. Maybe it doesn’t exist, but I thought I’d ask here. Thank you for your help.

One thing you can look at is a wall mount bracket for your monitor. That will get it off the desktop and free up some space.

Other than that, I would check office furniture stores for some kind of a modular unit that you could put together yourself that will fit your space requirements.

You said you looked at Staples. Did you look at their online store? You will find many articles there that are not in the local stores. If necessary call their 800 number and ask for assistance. Staples has the largest assortment of different desks and workstations to fit many different applications. I do not work for Staples but have had to shop for many different types of desks and Staples always came thru where other suppliers fell by the wayside.

I don't get that..

We use the office depot (any professional store supplier) for the better quality modular systems. Each product line has all sorts of parts you can mix and match and they are not cheap fall apart junk.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

If all else fails, you could have a cabinetmaker build a unit to your specifications

If you belong to Sam's Club or Costco they both frequently have units like that. Their goods are usually wood, not photoprint over particle board. Take measurements for what will fit prior to shopping.

Friends,

Thanks so much! I am looking into each of your suggestions! To the battery discharge piece I mentioned; someone told me that if I keep the PC unplugged, the battery on the bios will not keep a charge and I will lose my settings. I take it that I was given wrong info from a reply I received.

If you are referring to the power pack battery you need to consult your manual. Some manufacturer's state to keep in when running on AC power, some the opposite.

The CMOS (BIOS settings) are kept using another battery which is not rechargable. It is similiar to a watch battery but larger, and like that type of battery it can last for years. There is no need to keep the laptop connected to the AC for that reason.

OtheHill,

How did you conclude that the OP was referring to a laptop?

Good question. I guess I was going by a faulty memory. Shame on me.

Veets, did you pick up on my mistake? The principle is still the same though.

Hi again,

My memory is faulty these days! I can't remember a thing! I ended up doing something out of the ordinary. I placed my 22" widescreen LG flat screen display on the window sill. It works for now until I find a desk. I did notice that when I booted up, the clock had to be adjusted, by a matter of minutes. So far all is good and I'm now looking for a wireless router.

Thanks to you folks for your input!

Veets
