My computer just came down with the exact same problem today, two different cdroms though. I just reformatted my machine, one minute the drives are working fine in windows, the next they're not even assigned a drive letter. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I can guarantee that the problem is with the OS and not the hardware. I tried doing a system restore but it won't work either, it just says it can't do it. I'm trying to restore to my very first restore point now. If it works, I'm going to burn myself a copy of W2K advanced server and put that on here and never deal with Windows XP again. Not only that, but I'm going to make "the switch" as soon as I get enough money together. Here's an update, I wasn't able to go back to the first system restore point either, which means something is REALLY screwed up. This SHOULDN'T happen, especially since this is an install done today, all I did was install 10 normal applications and windows update (which had 34 security updates) |
