NEC monitor has bad color quality

Nec Multisync lcd1970nx-bk black 19
December 26, 2010 at 10:38:44
Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon x64 5000 black edition
my monitor ( NEC Multisync LCD 1970nx) is showing grainy pictures. The monitor is plug and play, so there is no need to update the driver. I also hade to change the RGB balence to play some games at good color. The graphics card is a Geforce 7600 GT, and it works fine on other monitors. What it looks like is that its stuck on 16 bit color, as when i switch modes, nothing happens. Happens on all resolutions. Any help?

sounds like your monitor is dying. No bent pins in the connector?

16 bit color is not bad at all. As stated, your old tube monitor is probably dying or you have the settings wacked.

What resolution and refresh rate are you using?

@ Steve: None of the pins are bent.

@othhill: it is an LCD monitor, and its refresh rate is 60 hertz. The resolution is at 1280 by 1024, but can go higher and lower

Geez, I can't even read right. I saw NEC multiSync and thought that was an old series of CRT monitors.

If you can try another monitor to verify it isn't the graphics chip/card. If another monitor displays the same then try re-installing the graphics drivers using the latest from the chip makers site.

1280 x 1024 appears to be the native resolution which you should use.

Below is a link to a monitor driver. Scroll to your model.

1280x1024@60Hz is the recommended resolution for your monitor. Try updating your video drivers.

I know that its is not the graphics card, mainly because i have tested on another monitor and my tv and it works fine. Ill try the monitor driver for now.

I might add that the specs on that LCD display are not very good. Not good for gaming at all.

If you decide to buy a new display, I suggest you post here for suggestions.

What about this?

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-DV3HP-C0...

the only reason it has only 1 star is because amazon marked it wrong, and its 20 inch, but i dont really care.

That one is certainly better than what you have, spec wise. It is made by Provantage, I think.

What is your budget including tax and shipping?

Others may able able to help you too. I don't think you get a much better monitor for that much.

You could start a new thread here asking for recommendations on an LCD display up to $150 including shipping.
