Hi, I'm attempting to learn MySql on Apache on my own but I'm stuck. When I type in a command at the prompt in dos i get the following message: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)'. Can anybody help me with this please.

under NT...

Open a dos command prompt window and go to the mysql bin directory (c:\phpdev\mysql\bin).

Run "mysqld-nt.exe --install"
Run "net start mysql"

If you go to your services manager you should see a MySql service there - you can enable it to start auto when windows start.

Your mysql should work now.

ps: Oracle SQL/SQL+ is better
