Help please. I tend not to use "My Documents" for holding everything!! but when Windows Explorer starts it shows an exploded view of "My Documents" under Desktop automatically on load up meaning that I have to close this down before I can look at any other files. I have removed the "My Computer" folder from the desktop and also deleted it in Explorer but the next time I open Explorer it's back again as before despite there being no entry on the desktop. I also use "PowerDesk 5" an Explorer type utility, and this works as expected without the "My Documents" being shown under desktop.

Try this:
In Windows Explorer or Control Panel,
click Tools in the Menu bar,
click Folder Options,
click View tab,
in Advanced Settings list, find and uncheck
"Restore previous folder windows at logon"

Right click the Windows Explorer shortcut on your Desktop or in your Start menu, click Properties, and click the Shortcut Tab
The target field contains the command that opens Explorer, for example, C:\windows\explorer.exe. To this, add a space and type /n, /e, C:\startfolder (where startfolder is the path to the starting folder). The /n parameter tells windows to always open a new window, and the /e parameter tells windows to use an expanded tree view. These parameters are optional, so use them as you desire. Click OK to apply the changes.

Or you could just hit The windows logo key and the "E" key at the same time. That'll open explorer to all of your drives.

Thanks to you all for such prompt replies.

That has certainly solved the problem of "My Documents" opening up. However what I would really like to see when I start up is the full list of desktop items and available drives without them being exploded. Is there an option to the /e parameter to not explode.Best regards
