The thing is, every now and then my computer does something weird that it's never done when I ran other OS like 2k or win98.
First off, I have 520-something RAM, P3 500, and 30 GIG HD.
Anyways... My computer sort of goes into this weird LAG, and I mean LAG -- I'm talking about it just doesn't move at ALL. When I hit ALT+CTL+DEL to see what's going on (i.e. what's sucking up all the juice) and go to the "processes" tab, I see under "image name" the words "SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS" and under "cpu" (which I assume is the percent of CPU usage??) the number just keeps on climbing and climbing and climbing to around 90 or so.
So my question is, is there any way to keep the computer from lagging so badly? I've taken out almost all of the "special" look of XP by clicking on the choice for "best performance," then clicking just the last one, to keep some measure of XP coolness -- just the colors and such, nothing special. And STILL my computer lags.
Does anyone know of any settings to fix this, or something else? It's killing me, because when the lag hits, it takes FOREVER for it to go anyway -- i.e. for my computer to get all the ram or whatever back.
(P.S. I run MemTurbo II to help with memory processing, and when the app is in the system tray, it shows the number of RAM I have available to use. As soon as the lag hits, that number starts to drop like a b---tard, all the way down to 100, when the automatic "memory recovery" hits -- and then the number will go back down right again!)
HELP!

Um...
I have the same sort of problem, but mine is not as bad. I have 512mb ram, and an athlon 900, but it seems to be LAG way to much for what kind of computer I have.
Hope some one can help, Im a Tech head and cant figure this one outoh the system specs
Athlon Tbird 900
512mb pc133
20gig WD 5400rpm harddrive
56k cheap ass modem
Geforce2MX
24x cd-rom drive
ensoniq AudioPCI Sound cardalso on a side note, games run fine and XP is as bare as you can get it, all the funky stuff truned off!

It might be because of a driver that windows XP doesn't like. I have the same kind of problem with a modem driver, as windows XP doesn't have any XP-only drivers for it, so i tried it using a win 2000 driver. it boots up, but it just seems to freeze every so often. I uninstalled the driver for it and now everything works fine. it might be a better option to keep a dual boot system so that you can wait for microsoft to pull their fingers out of their asses and give us some better drivers for XP. Also, if you want win Me (or any other win 9x version) to look like XP you can download an XP full skin at: http://www.bomis.com/rings/win32shells

I FIXET IT!!!!!
BOOOOOHAHAHHAHAHHAHHHAA
