Which window are you throwing it from? I'm waiting down here in the street below.
You reformatted, and reinstalled Win XP?
Is it possible that you upgraded from another operating system?
Or maybe you installed the sound board after installing XP the first time?
Did you purchase the computer with XP already installed?
What exact method did you use to install XP following the reformat?
Beauty of the high sierra,

im not upgrading it i had to reformat it cuz of a virus it was already installed on the computer and i put the windows disk in and went to reformat when i restarted the computer w/ the disc already in

Punctuation is your friend "hillside." It makes for easier reading too.
But, I'm not here just to critique your punctuation.
I've experienced bad installs before. Things just don't work right, something didn't install properly... etc. So, what I do is:
1. Use a boot diskette (not your WinXP CD) to FDISK the drive. But, be VERY careful about any possible hidden partition where a "system restore" might be residing.
2. Delete the main partition and recreate it again.
3. Do a format c: /u to make sure everything is gone.
4. Reinstall XP.
5. If you don't get any sound straight off the install. Go into device manager and find out what's located under the "Sound" category. If you see something with a red X or an " ! " mark, fix it by updating the drivers.
6. Repeat #5 with the video card. If there's a problem, update the drivers.
