my friend has the same problem.
You have too powerfull computer. Reduce your RAM and processor speed.
After that reinstall the windows and that should fix your problem.

Make sure your BIOS is correct for XP. And make sure you have any 'FastBoot' options set to "on" in the BIOS. I have been struggling with this for a couple of weeks and I am now having about 95% success after finding the FastBoot option was off and turning it on.

What kind of box is it and what was the OEM OS installed when you got it?

There is also a patch in the Windows Update Catalog that does some kind of fix for this if you use Office XP and have the Input Method Editor installed. I tried it without success but it might work for you if you meet that criteria.

On the other hand - if you have Easy CD Creator installed, one of the components, Direct CD, has a conflict with XP. Update Easy CD Creator and it'll fix this problem. (If that's what it is)

Alex, I didn't know one could have too much computing power. To reduce the RAM, do I cut it in half with a saw or something? I wish someone would make an OS to handle a Pentium 4 2Ghz with 512 MB Ram! They could call it Windows XP, or something to that effect. LOL

I strongly urge you to do a 'Repair' installation. Just insert your CD and boot and during the installation, continue with fresh install and on the next you will be prompted to choose repair, press key 'R' and it will repair the previously installed XP. Many of the problems are usually resolved after a repair. Good luck, this procedure takes just around 1/2 hour
