Help ...
I have windows Xp Professional.
My task bar and start menu are gone
This is what I already did
1) Trying to hover over the bottom - nothing
2) Pressing the start (window) key or ctrl+Esc nothing happens.
3) Started the computer in safe mode - there I do see the start button and menu, but that did not help for the regular mode.
4) Used msconfig to for a clean start - and nothing
Any Ideas ??? Please help
Thanx

One possibility may be that you have simply dragged it down. Place the cursor at the bootom of the screen and slowly move up and down. Watch for a double headed arrow. IF you see that left click and hold while dragging upward.

Start task manager. On the File menu, select New Task, Run. Type in "explorer" and press OK to restart explorer. If that brings things back your registry might need some fixing.

Try #99 on the left side of the page here:

But maybe you weren't careful enough with your #1 attempt.

Thanks for your ideas but none helped.
1) There is no Watch for a double headed arrow (anyway it should have opened when I pressed ctrl+Esc but it doesn't)
2)I did what you said the Explorer opened but I'm missing the start button and task bar...
3) I went to Kelly's corner and ran #99 It updated the registry but still I do not see anything
... I can see the start button only when I use the safe mode
I am still open to suggestions
Ideas anyone?

I too am having the same problem. I have windows XP and no task bar or start button. When I start explorer through the task manager, it runs for about 30 seconds and then stops again leaving me where I started. If you found a fix I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks
