Have you double checked the speaker wire connections to make sure you have them in the correct ports?

Hi Ok, go to your control panel and click on SOUND AND AUDIO devices, then tick where is says PLACE VOLUME ICON IN THE TASK BAR. After that look at the CLOCK, you should have small speaker. Click on it twice. Try muting microfone, line in etc.

Hmmm.... is it an interference type of noise Distortion???? Plug a portable CD player or walkman into speakers to see if the sound is still there. If so, there is a problem with speakers, if not, it could be the OS, could be the sound card or something like that. Do you have another pair of speakers around??? try them, or try some headphones to determine the problem.
