My sister's compaq presario won't turn on

Specs: Windows XP begin with, the laptop is pretty least seven years old. But it has worked perfectly up until now. Basically, the laptop just suddenly turned off without any warning or anything. We thought it was the battery since the battery was never had to be replaced at all when I owned it (no joke), and we recently purchased a brand new one. We have attempted to plug it in to a wall outlet, and the charger light came on, so it's acknowledging the charger, but it still won't turn on. The interesting thing is...the power light & hard drive light both flickered for a second, but nothing else. We're going to completely charge it to make sure the battery is at 100%, but someone has told me it may be the hard drive or the power deck in the laptop itself. Any chance it could simply be the charger or the motherboard? It's a Compaq Presario V2000, by the way.

I would bet on it being the AC adapter.
Go to e-bay and put in your laptop brand and model number along with ac adapter. They are real inexpensive anymore.

Just because the led is on on the charger does not mean it is getting enough power to start the laptop.
Also try the ac adapter alone (physically remove the battery) and see if it powers up.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
