Well, let me start from the beggining. I left my computer on overnight, and when I woke up, I guess it had froze. The screen was on stand-by (save power), and wouldn't go back to my desktop (I moved the mouse, pressed a bunch of keys). So I deceided to restart it, but when I pressed the power button, nothing happened. It wouldn't turn off, or restart, so I turned it off from the back. I waited a second, and turned it back on from the back. However, when I press the power button, nothing happens. There is a slight sound (as if the computer was trying or about to start up), but nothing happens. So now, for the last few hours, my computer hasn't been able to start. I've been flicking the switch back and forth, pressing the button, nothing is happening. I'm hoping there is a way to fix this without taking it in, or getting a new motor. Please help! My email is trag1ck@yahoo.com, or just reply here. Thank you.

Is there power to the outlet it's plugged into. If it's in a surge protector, is it hot or did it trip the breaker. Start there first.

Yes, there is power to the surge protector, and everything else conntected to it works fine. The only thing is my pc won't start, it just makes a faint noise, and gives up.

Well, I can think of a couple of things.
First of all, it may be that you have a nearly dead power supply, (which you call, "the motor.). In this case, you NEED TO GET IT REPLACED RIGHT AWAY! A bad power supply can burn up your computer with an unmanaged surge to every other component such as the memory, mobo, hard disks, everything the power supply is hooked up to.

Secondly, if you are hearing some kind of weird sound or noise (it might be a bad power supply fan), but just the fan going bad would not prevent the boot up...so I am thinking, it may be that you have a BAD hard disk...and now it has failed.

If the computer can at least boot up to the boot screen (BIOS level), but it freezes or tells you it is finding a device error (bad hard disk), you will know its the primary hard disk that has crashed.

If you cannot even get to the boot up screen, then it is either a power supply problem, or something has happened to the BIOS chip (it may be that the bad power supply fried the BIOS)....

In any case, I am thinking, you have a bad power supply...that is the first thing to REPLACE! And do it NOW...before you burn the other componenets on your computer.

Where can I get a new power supply? Do I have to order it and install it myself, or can it just be fixed at a computer repair shop?

Don't attempt it yourself. it can be very dangerous. Take it to a shop for repair.
