Which partition was having the problem when slaved?
Was it the boot partition containing the operating system?
If you can access the data on other partitions I suggest you back it up, and run some harddrive diagnostics on the disk.
Download the diag tool from the drive manufacturer. It is usually used to create a bootfloppy that runs the diagnostics. Most can also be downloaded as an ISO that you can burn to create a bootable CD if you don't have a floppy drive.

If the drive passes the fitness tests then use the manufacturers program to zero-fill ( low level format) and start afresh.

XP will not boot when the HDD (harddrive) is moved to another PC. You have to do a Repair Install of XP, if you want it to boot in another PC. OR install HDD as a slave just to recover data.

Using software to fix boot in another PC may have ruined XP booting. Return HDD to original computer, and try a Repair ---
