My PC is very slow to respond to commands...almost unusable

March 8, 2013 at 10:34:42
Specs: Windows XP
I want to know how to evaluate whether it is worth fixing/upgrading my PC. The main concern is its slowness to respond/load to almost all requests, from starting up to web browsing to loading a program like MS Word. I regularly defragment and delete temporary files. My memory after defrag shows 49% used.

What system do you have now?

How much memory do you have now?
What processor?

How many programs are you running at startup? Do you need them all? START-RUN-MSCONFIG.

Memory usage and defragging have nothing to do with each other. As Dan said, you need to list your system specs.

Memory is RAM. I suspect you mean 49% hard disk free space.

Another possibility for slowness is some sort of virus. Download, install and run MalwareBytes from here:

Paste the log in your reply so that we can see if it found anything of any consequence.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
