Comment:

When I use the computer that I have set up as the server for my home network, when I go to my network places and try to view the computers in my workgroup the process stops responding and I have to hit crtl/alt/delete to bring up task manager and stop the process. Then when I do it returns me to my desktop, but all the icons and task bar are missing and then they return after a few seconds, and it will scan my drives while I'm waiting for the icons to reappear. What can I do to correct this behavior?

I don't think you mean Server I think you mean Host. Try setting your Home Network again
