Specs: Windows XP
my mouse pointer is moving erratically at times it also moves back into the middle of an already typed sentence and starts typing in the middle of words or just stops typing altogether and you have to keep lining up the horizontal line at the end of where your typing over and over. But the most frustrating is the erratic movements of the arrow all over the page, sometimes it stops for a while, and sometimes it just gets worse until you can't control it at all, then usually freezes soon after. I just has my computer checked out for spyware and viruses etc. and downloaded the best McAfee had to offer right after. I've tried everything. I have a Dell laptop. Please help me, I work from home on my computer.

The first thing to try is to plug in a USB mouse and disable the touchpad (there is usually a switch or a key combination to do this, depending on model). If the mouse works fine then that will tell you if the issue is with the touchpad itself. If you still get the problem then it is more likely a software issue.

I is probably an over sensitive touch pad. The touchpad senses any local activity and causes the pointer to jump around erratically. you can download and install a program that stops this happening.

Also available from many other sites.
