Strange intermittent symptoms - could be record socket or other hardware issue.

Just to start this post rolling:
I see you have a question mark against a "USB Device". Can't see how this could affect sound but you might as well Uninstall it from Device Manager then reboot. This will reload the software and might get rid of the USB error.

If you look in your AV logs can you find what "volume" file was removed?

Type sfc /scannow in the Run box (note the one space) then hit Enter key. Let it run and it should put back any missing system files.

About the only other thing I can think of is to look inside the PC (I'm assuming it's not a laptop) and make sure all connections in the sound area are firmly placed. If it is an add-on sound card, clean its edge connectors with a pencil eraser then pop the card in and out a few times to remove any oxide from the socket.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

If sfc /scannow asked for the disk then it might mean that some file or other was faulty or missing.

Type eventvwr.msc in the "Run" box and look under the "System" section.

Sfc should be logged as "Information" when it starts and exits, and as "Error"
if it came across a corrupt file or could not locate the original installation files.

Whatever, it would be interesting to see what it says.

Off the top of my head, as it works sometimes it sounds more like a hardware issue.
If the driver was wrong then it would most likely never work with it.

If sfc ran through but it didn't help, that is all that really matters.

Errors in Events are not uncommon - mostly they are minor issues which don't cause any problems.

If it is a hardware issue, which I suspect, then no amount of tweaking software will fix it. See last para of my #1.
