Specs: Windows XP
My laptop is a Toshiba NB200, it has a win xp home pre installed. I am supposed to be an administrator user only but i am not. I cannot delete certain programmes from add/ remove programmes ie: Rapport. I can't delete a file in c://windows/temp . The file is called 'Perflib_Perfdata_1c4'. It says it's used by another person! Can anyone help me please?

On my user account, it shows that I am the only user (administrator) but yet I can't delete certain programmes on system because it's being used by another person!?

not person but application. You are running an application that is creating that temp file and the app has it open. You can not delete open files.

Proper setup of user accounts is to create an admin equal account and not use the administrator account. You leave that as a back door in case your working profile gets corrupted.

Second point is you should be using a limited account so when you become malware /virus infected those bad guys don't have full access to the system as they would with you working under an admin account.

As a user you should not be deleting files anywhere in the system. If you want to clean up temp files use disk cleanup off the accessories/system tools menu. This way you SAFELY delete files no longer needed.

That other person may well be the System itself, especially if they are in the Temp folder.

I wouldn't worry about it.
