My Icons Keep Changing!

At times I like to send a "favorites" selection as an icon to the desktop. The icons bear their unique artwork for about a minute before changing to the generic Explorer icon. How do I prevent this from happening?

I think those 'favicons' are stored in the "temporary internet files" folder, so maybe it's full or corrupted. And if you ever clear the cache, the favorites icons disappear, too.
You can typically download the icon from the main page of a site. For Yahoo, for example, download http://www.yahoo.com/favicon.ico, and edit the shortcut properties to use that icon.

I'm not sure how to edit the properties. When I go to the website and add the "favicon.ico" tag, I get the picture of the icon. What would I do next? Thanks in advance.

Right click the picture, "Save Picture As", and name it someIcon.ico (the ico extension is important). You might want to create an icons subfolder in "My Pictures" to keep track of any/all icons.
Then for the shorcut on your desktop, right click, properties, "Change Icon" and point it to the location of someIcon.ico
