hi, is there anyone familiar with this case:

>>I have and 80-Gig HD, partitioned it into two: C:(60GB) and D:(20GB)
>>WinXP Pro is installed in the drive C
>>My data are stored in the drive D
>>i removed the sharing of one of the folders in drive D to prevent other users to access it..
>>then I reformatted drive C
>>reinstalled XP in it...

When i tried to open the said folder in drive D, it says "Access Denied". But it still consumes the same size on the disk before i reformatted and reinstalled XP

I know why it is happening. it's because i restricted other users from accessing it. Now, it's restricting me too even if i had the same username and password used.

Is there a way for me to access it again?

This is standard when formatting the HD with the OS on it. Even creating users with the same ID and password will NOT give you access, what you must do is called "Taking Ownership". I've done this numerous times. These instructins are for 2kPro, but when the wifes machine was XP Pro it worked on hers almost exactly the same.

To take ownership of a file or folder

Open Windows Explorer, and navigate to the drive you want to take ownership of.
Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
Click the new owner, and then click OK.

You can change the owner of all subcontainers and objects within the tree by selecting the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
You can transfer ownership two ways:

The current owner can grant the Take ownership permission to others, allowing those users to take ownership at any time.

An administrator can take ownership of any file on the computer. However, the administrator cannot transfer ownership to others. This restriction keeps the administrator accountable.
