My floppy ate my files

I was trying to access my resume off of a floppy disk, and I noticed that the files from another floppy were on this disk, and the original files were gone. Most of the files deleted were MS Word files. I remember back on Win 9x that the computer would make random backups of files you were typing somewhere on the computer under different names. I am wondering if Win XP does the something like that, and where would the backups be stored. Thanks in advance.

For the original files to have disappeared you would have had to formatted the floppy at some time.
No programme will erase a disk in order to put it's own files on it... it will simplly add to the existing files (unless the disk is full then it will tell you so).
Word does not make random backups but it will backup if you suffer a 'hang' or a poer cut and then it will save to the Temp file.
If your files are missing I am afraid that at some time you have deleted them!
