Comment:

I installed a folder locking program called Folder Access to secure several files. (Tax records, old photos, etc.) I decided to try a different locking program. Problem is, I forgot to unlock the files before I uninstalled the 1st one. Now I can't open My Documents at all. When I try, it opens up Control Panel. I have looked everywhere for a solution. Tax time is near and I need help! Any thought would be appreciated.

mcleod55, Can you download and install that program again then unlock the folder(s)?

Thanks but I tried that. When I tried to add it back to the list it said: Folder already locked. Wouldn't let me do anything with it at all.

Run a system restore to a date before you installed the software. Perhaps that will help.

I wonder if Knoppix Live would work..... It's a Linux disto that runs straight from the cd-rom drive and in RAM and lets you access all the files on your pc. It was designed to give newbies an idea of what Linux is like before the erase/reformat windows.

Download Knoppix live, and burn the image to cd. put the cd in and set your computer to boot to cd drive before hard-disc and see if knoppix will let you view the files and perhaps transfer them to another computer/disc drive.

I have used this when a Windows install is corrupt and need to rescue files from a PC.

tomtt!!! You came up with the solution! Thanks a million! The Unlocker program worked! It allowed me to change the name of the folder so I could empty it. Once empty I tried to rename it to My Documents and it works normal now. I can put everything back where it belongs.

I did try the system restore that was mentioned but that didn't work either. Thanks to all of you that took the time to offer a solution. That's what makes forums work. Good job to you all.
