Strage problem...

When I install windows xp everything is fine. the desktop his in my screen not problem but for whatever reasons when I reboot sometimes I see the desktop doesnt fit perfectly anymore. sure no problem I use my monitor (Sony Multiscan 15sx, but detected as plug-&-play in win xp (too old)) setting to make it smaller and fit perfectly.. so with some time I restart and the problem apear time to time and I do the same thing to readjust my monitor setting.. but then... I cant anymore.. my monitor wont minize anymore because i reach his limit.. ok then.. I have no choice I use my videocard setting (Radeon 7500) to minize the screen and it works.. but then again the same problem appear after few restarts. I can minize anymore with my videocard settings either... now I cant see the time in my screen because it wont fit.. I tried already to uninstall and reinstall my videocard drivers, I tried to remove and reinstall my monitor drivers in device manager, I tried to look at ALL the settings in display options and in my radeon 7500 options as well.. I got the latest driver for my radeon BTW.

So I ask myself a question.. does Win XP have something to calibre automatically the size of my screen??? maybe but I there is I didnt find where to change that. is it in my radeon 7500 options? there is an option like that but I disable it and continues with same problem. so I guess its xp.

It's a long problem to type! :)

I dont know if any of you guys here ever saw that problem!?

any help will be greatly appreciated!

BTW its my first post here! :)

right-click anywhere in your desktop and click on properties. Then click on the last tab (advanced?). Your resolution might be too small.

Also, when you use your monitor to change the size, make sure you store the values.

Also go to sony and see if you can find an INF file for your monitor. This file specifies the valid resolutions, refresh rates, etc. It'll work on all versions of Windows.

Try this: Right ckick on your desktop and choose properties go to the desktop tab and under position change that from center to stretch. Hope this helps

thanks guys for you advice.

1. Hmm, I tried already to look for those damn inf. but that monitor is so old i cant find that anywhere... :( I tried a bunch of things.. always same problem.. I dont think it is an issue with my XP/monitor.. but if I cant find the inf.. I guess I'm done.. If I uninstall my videocard drivers.. my desktop wont fit AT ALL in my monitor! its ridiculous I am pissed off.

2. thanks for your advice Smokey but my problem is not with my wallpaper fitting my screen. it is with everything fitting my screen :(

thanks guys!

I hope there is something else we can do..

I hope I dont need to buy a new monitor! I poor these days! :)

It sounds like a monitor problem to me.If you can borrow a graphics card from someone a tnt2 or something cheap and try that first. But I have seen old monitors do that and you have to resize them evertime you reboot

Sorry to hear about your problem, you'll notice on some of the old Multisync monitors that the screen size jumps around when you change resolutions.
change from 640X480 at 60HZ to 640X480 at 72HZ and the screen gets smaller, that's due to the higher Frequency of the beam writing the image on the screen.
if you have a old monitor then there is a big chance that you don't have "autosizing" which is built into the new monitor's.

to really combat your problem i think you know what you have to do, but make sure you have played with everything regarding you current state, it may just come right,

good luck
