my d drive is gone

my d drive is gone, i have tried all the troubleshooting ideas(uninstall..etc) with no results, the light comes on but it will not read an installation cd and my computer does not list it as a drive...help!!

it might help if we knew the nature of the problem first - in other words what were you doing just before it stopped showing up?
assuming the wires are tightly in place (and jumpers are set correctly ;-) - i would first run the add new hardware wizard for kicks and see if it comes up with anything. (settings, control pannel, add hardware)
second, use a boot disk to get to dos and then run fdisk to see if its even showing up or if you f@##$'d up the partion(s)
