Hello everyone,

When going to My Computing.Net the messages are not showing up. I must click on Message List to view them.

If this is a change, I personally prefer they show up without having to click on Message List. It's extrmely seldom I go there to change my signature or Forum Settings.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi street1, hello everyone,

Yeah, I just got used to checking my messages, alerts, private messages, and saved messages at one time without having to go to several different pages.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hello,

I think this way is much more straightforward for most users. The system will let you know how many (if any) unread replies exist on your message list before having to view it. I want to leave it like this at least for a while. Perhaps I can make a direct link to the Message List somewhere on all the pages? That way, you'd never have to go to the My Computing.Net main page.

Hello everyone,

Hi Justin,

I now see that, and the bold is nice for the number. One can't miss they have new messages.

There's not many sites that I frequent, if any, I've been visiting for over 5 years. Computing.net is the only I can think of. With that in mind changes are a bit different and harder for myself to adjust to. I can almost browse the entire site blindfolded. :-)

I suppose it is something I just need to get used to, like when you moved the WinXp forum link to the top of the list. After several attempts I was finally able to get myself into the Win9x forum. :-)

For me, I go to the message list a thousand times for each time I would need to go to the forum settings.

Then again, it could just be signs of me getting old and accepting change. :-)

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hello everyone,

Hi Badboy,

I thought I'd lost all of my messages.

LOL!! In a small panic, I thought the same thing. I went as far as cleaning out my cookies and restarting the computer. :-)

Hello everyone,

Good Morning XpUser,

You know the old saying You cannot teach an old dog new tricks.

The little lady has been trying for years and I've still yet to learn a new one. :-)

I guess that's a fact of life, isn't it? LOL

No doubt! :-)

Are you snowed in yet?

mesich,

Your reasoning is exactly the reason I had kept it the way it was for so long. However, its really easy for us to become accustomed to something that is not the best way of doing something. When I put myself in the mind of a brand new user, I thought about going to some really long My Computing.Net page with all these seemingly unrelated things all combined in the same place. I decided that, for this person, it didn't make any sense and made the site look more "amatuerish." That's why I decided to change it.

Hello everyone,

Hi Justin,

However, its really easy for us to become accustomed to something that is not the best way of doing something.

I knew it was old age!! :-)

Seriously, I'm fine with it and completely understand the reason for the change. Now after getting about 6 "New Messages" and several "Alert Messages" I am beginning to like it more and more.

When I first posted I had not seen that a bold number would show up indicating a new item. I thought I would have to go to the New Messages link to see if any new responses were there.

Now if I can just stop the natural reflex to scroll down when when clicking My Computing.Net. :-)

Best Regards,
Mesich

Now that I see some of you 'forum heavyweights' were concerned too it makes me feel a lot better ...lol

Justin stays right on top of things and is always looking for ways to improve the forum.

It looks like he has succeeded in doing it once again.

A little disconcerting at first - I was using the PM feature when it 'disappeared' - but it does seem a bit tidier this way.

Thanks for adding timestamps to the messages Justin
