My computer won't power up

Last night I my computer was left on last night and when I woke up in the morning it was off. I attempted to power it up, and it started (the fan turned on as well as power supply) and then quickly shut off. After that it would no longer power up. The only way I can get it to power up (and only for a very short period of time (a few seconds) is to leave it unplugged for 10 seconds or more and then plug it back in. I have checked all the connections and they seem fine. I tried plugging it in and a different power cable and it doesn't change anything. This is a new computer (a few months) so I don't really know what to do. I checked a few of the other posts but nothing has helped. Please help. Thx.

Did you have it connected to a surge protector?? Also it may be the power supply that might be the problem. If it is custom built have the guy that built you it order a new on.

It is plugged into a surge protector but Im sure that its not a great one. And I am the guy who built it, and would a power supply that is broken do that? I would assume it wouldnt power up at all, but I could easily be wrong.
