Comment:
just a few days ago my computer started to run VERY slowly. It runs fine a few minuites after start up, but then it starts to slow down and takes a really long time to do simple things like open a folder or run a program. Is there anything i can do to find out what is causeing this problem, and how to fix it?
Open the Task Manager and start turning off everything listed on the "Processes" tab with your login name next to it.
It sounds like you have too many programs running in the background.

Run adaware on your PC and u will then SEE y ur PC is running extremely slow.. Very common problem right now with windows XP. If u goto www.download.com and search for adaware then u will find that will work once downloaded and installed. Its free ;-))

I would also consider scanning your PC with Anti-Virus software as it sounds like a trojan to me which runs at startup.

Go To www.pcpitstop.com, it checks everything, and it will tell you what is wrong for free. It will even detect some adware programs. Simple website solves most of my issues.

I have the same problem with my XP. I just updated it with SP1 and other updates as suggested by the system and all of a sudden it takes 15 minutes to boot and even simple tasks takes a long time. There is not much of a CPU usage and there is nothing else running anyway.
