My computer restarts by itself for no reason within 10 sec-3 min after I started it. Either when I try to open a program (Web browser, DVD-player or simular) or when I perform a virus scan (SPybot-Search & destroy)I've tried to shut down non essential services in MSconfig one by one to see if anything improves, but no luck. And one out of maybe ten times I get the message "Your hd needs an inconsequence check" (I hope I got that right, my OS is in swedish). It does so and usually it tells me that a temporary internet file in Documents and Settings is "invalid". Thats it. Then it boots up again and eventually restarts within minutes. Sometimes it restarts 1-5 times in the middle of booting up and the only way to even start it at that point is to do so in safe mode. Then I can use my computer for 10 to 20 minutes before it restarts. QUE? What is wrong with it? I ran out of options long time ago. Anybody?
I have a picture with all services and autostart objects on "www.slipgrip.se/services/services.jpg" if that helps. I'm getting DESPERAT. I really can't use my computer at all anymore.

Is this a computer just recently built or it just started doing it recently? Power supply specs? PSU age? If you could provide some more info I might have an idea.

You may have a virus ! Spybot search & destroy is not an anti-virus scanner. Suggest you go to Major Geeks or some other download site and download and install a free anti-virus program, then run it. Of course you can only do this in safe mode right now. Also check your event viewer to see what is causing the restarts.

Some hardware checks that you can make:

1. Download and run a memory checker. Run it overnight and any failures at all are unacceptable.

Memtest has an ISO for creating a CD
http://memtest86.com/

2. Run chkdsk /f /r

The /r will cause chkdsk to analyze every sector on the hard drive to make sure it's ok. If you have a very large hard disk, you might want to run it overnight also.

3. Win XP reboots when it encounters an unrecoverable error. To have XP display an error message instead of rebooting:

1. Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Under System failure, click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
5. Click OK, and then click OK.

Thank you, "PGCKKWVDZM". Your question "Power supply specs?" made me think. And for once, it helped! It turns out I live in a flat with electricity that can peak up to 240 volts. My power supply (350W) only support 220-230 volts. So, I bought a 550W - 220-240 volts power supply, and voilá, problem solved. The toughest problems often have the simplest solutions, don't you think? Thank you.
